Persuasive Reflection First Draft

When I found out that I had to take a communications class full of writing I was very nervous because in high school I didn’t do so well. I have a learning disability in English which has affected me through my education; many teachers liked to baby me and still give me the mark I didn’t deserve in high school. They might of though they were helping me but they weren’t helping me at all. I excel at writing but when it comes to my grammar it is very pore. So, you can only imagine how nervous I would be going into a communications class knowing that I must pass the course.

Being able to hand in more then one draft has helped me improved my English. Now I wish that in high school I could have done this and it would have made my experience a lot different. The fist shitty draft is more like an outline of what your paper is going to be and there are usually many grammar mistakes. The second draft for me improved a lot after I got a peer evaluation, and they seen different mistakes I didn’t see; and would give me pointers on where I could improve. This peer evaluation helped me find mistakes I didn’t see, Paris has had a big impact on how I have improved in this course “Hi Maddie, I really like it because it is very original and authentic. All three points are arranged logically. Each reason has its own paragraph and all of them connect with each other well using connective devices: there are topic sentences, reference words that link the previous paragraph with the next one. And it is relevant to community as well because there are many people that struggle and need to actively seek for helps
– However, the 4th paragraph can start with a linking word to the previous one so they would be more connected
– There are some repetitive words and phrases”
Paris🙂 Lastly the third draft was a draft that the teacher would look over and provide me with feed back, after I got the feed back from my teacher I would fix my mistakes, and then go over it one more time and after I was finished my final draft. If I didn’t have the chance to hand in different drafts, then my marks would not be where they are today.

The reflections and handouts given out in class have also had an impact on my progression in communications. The reflections help me reflect on what has helped me in lab and the impact it had on me. This is one of my reflections I poste it explains how the peer evaluation will help me to better my 3rd draft for This I Believe The two reviews were helpful to me for my second draft, because I didn’t catch myself that I had run on sentences and had used the same words a few times. If I didn’t have the peer reviews my second draft wouldn’t be as good as it is now”. Some of the handouts that were given out in seminar has also helped me become a better writer because they gave me ideas of different words, tips on how to use proper grammar, and there where great tips on how to write our blogs.

At first I thought that communications wouldn’t help me become a better writer or improve my English, but know I have a totally different perspective about communications. Communications has helped me progress as a writer from my peer’s and teacher’s evaluation. It has also helped give me feedback on where I need to improve on my drafts. This course has boosted my confidence in English and now I feel ready for communications 2 next semesters.

This I believe first draft

I believe that advocating for your self can help you in many ways, one way that I think is the most important way you should self advocate for yourself is if you have a disability, you should make sure that you let people know. Self advocating can also help you become better at communicating with other people. Lastly self advocating helps people become more responsible.

Self advocating for a person with any type of disability is very important, because when you have a disability that is not visual to people, then people can not help you unless you bring it to their attention. I personally can relate to this because I myself have a learning disability and if I didn’t self advocate for my self like I do, I would not be where I am today. Self advocating for yourself can be scary, but in my opinion if you don’t then you will struggle with your disability, even thought it can be as easy as letting someone know so you can get the help you deserve.

By self advocating for yourself you can become better at communicating with others. This helps you communicate with others because you always have to reach out to someone and let them know what you are struggling with. Also by having to reach out to people it can help you be able to explain yourself better. Self advocating for my self has helped me be able to express my feelings to others more willingly and become more aware of how important it is.

Being responsible is very important and by self advocating for yourself it helps you become a more responsible person. It helps you become more responsible because you are now responsible for telling your co-workers, teachers, peers etc. about what you are feeling, or what you might need. Becoming a advocate for myself has helped me become more responsible, because I have learned that I am the only one that fully understands my disability and that I am responsible for letting people know, or I won’t get the help I need.

In conclusion self advocating for your self is a very important part of life, it helps you become better at communicating which will help you to express yourself. Becoming more responsible for yourself and letting people know how they can help is important when self advocating for yourself. Lastly making sure that people are aware of your disability. I can not express enough about how self advocating for myself has helped me in many ways, and I hope many people do self advocate because it helps.

remove some of the repetition, self advocate and myself, self advocate and yourself. In other words , you can simply say “I self advocate” and delete for “myself.”
– However, the 4th paragraph can start with a linking word to the previous one so they would be more connected
– There are some repetitive words and phrases

I believe that being a self advocate can help you in many ways, it builds confidence, independence and clear communication, and responsibility. People can advocate for many reasons such as expressing feelings in an uncomfortable situation, to feeling left out, lack of understanding of a situation or having a disability or special needs.

I personally can relate to this because I myself have a learning disability and if I didn’t self advocate for my self like I do, I would not be where I am today. Self advocating for a person with any type of disability is very important, because when you have a disability that is not visual to people, then people can not help you unless you bring it to their attention. Self advocating can be scary, but in my opinion if you don’t then you will struggle with your disability, even though it can be as easy as letting someone know so you can get the help you deserve.

By self advocating you can become better at communicating with others. This helps you because you have to reach out to someone, and let them know what you are struggling with, also by reaching out to people it can help you be able to explain your needs so you can be successful as well this gives others a better understanding so they can be helpful. Self advocating for my self has helped me be able to explain my feelings, strengths and needs to others, this definitely is a skill that needs practice. The more I advocate for myself I continue to have a better understand of how important it is to advocate as well as for others that are trying to help you.

It is your responsibility to advocate for yourself and sometimes it helps to talk it through with someone who has a good understanding of what your needs are. Practicing or role playing when you need to ask or explain your needs is often helpful when your going into a new situation. When telling your co-workers, teachers, peers etc. about what you are feeling, or what you might need. Becoming an advocate for myself has been a skill I have had to learn and it has helped me become more responsible for myself, because I have learned that I am the only one that fully understands my disability and that I am responsible for letting people know, or I won’t get the help I need if I don’t speak up.

In conclusion self advocating is a very important part of life, it helps you become better at communicating and confidence which will help you to express yourself. Becoming more responsible for yourself, and letting people know how they can help. Lastly making sure that people are aware of your disability and needs. I can not express enough about how self advocating for myself has helped me in many ways, and I hope many people do self advocate because it helps.

Profile Essay

 Profile assignment First Draft

In my interview with Lauren we discussed what it is like being a first year nursing student, she said “it is very difficult”, “many class mates aren’t very social because everyone is serious and to focused on their school work”. I asked her if after being in the program for 7 weeks now would she have wished that she didn’t go into nursing? she replied by saying that “if my marks don’t get better or the work becomes to over whelming that I will consider applying to become a DSW. I went on and asked what advice would she give to a student wanting to go into the nursing program? the advice she would give them would be “be ready to buckle down, study a lot, nursing is competitive and you will not be able to do what you want all the time because the course demands a lot of your time”. Being at Fleming college for 7 weeks I asked her if she would recommend the nursing program at Fleming to other students she said that “I can’t really recommend anything because I haven’t been to any other school for nursing, and every school has its likes and dislikes. She also stated being a first a first year student is very stressful but she said she is sure it is also probably stressful for everyone else because everyone has their own test and worries. Lastly I finished off my interview by asking what is the hardest class in the nursing program and she said math is defiantly the toughest.

2nd Draft Profile Assignment

In my interviewed I talked with Lauren on what it is like being a first-year student here at Fleming college, I had a lot of questions to ask her and she had a lot to say. We talked first about how the classroom atmosphere is and she said, “it is very unwelcoming and many students aren’t very friendly, I feel alone most of the time and sit by myself”. Also, I asked her what her feelings were towards the program now since she has been in it for 7 weeks and has got a feel for how things work her response was “if my marks don’t get better, or the work becomes more overwhelming, then I will consider applying to the DSW program”.

After talking a lot about the education part of the program I asked her if she would give any advice to first year students wanting to apply to the nursing program, the advice she had for them was “be ready to buckle down, study a lot; nursing is competitive and you will not be able to do what you want all the time because the course demands your time”. I was also curious to know if she would recommend this program she said that “I can’t really recommend the nursing program at Fleming College to other students, because I haven’t been to other colleges that have nursing; and every school has its likes and dislikes”.

Every student in every program has many stressful stuffs to worry about, but I am also a first-year student at Fleming college; and I believe that college could be less stressful if they pro longed the programs. They could also cut the course that really are just unnecessary to the program, and a lot more people would enjoy to learn and come to school everyday.

Final Draft Profile

Making your Hobby, Your Career

Being able to be around the animals you love and your favourite hobby as your job sound awesome, well the person I interviewed is so lucky to say that she has that. I interviewed Hilary, I am guessing your wondering what her hobby is and favourite animal? It is horses and she owns a riding stable that boards other people’s horses and she gives lessons to children and adults. I so happen to board my horse at her facility and have had riding lessons from her. In my interview, she said to me most people would probably hate my job because it does involve cleaning up poop, but she said she absolutely loves everything about having a horse stable.

When she talked about teaching lessons she showed so much enthusiasm towards the children and adults she coaches, she explained it as if she gets to be on a different journey every time she teaches someone, as if she is growing with them when they proceed to become more skilled and concur new challenges. She also explained how different every rider is, which I could relate to her saying that because me and my sister both ride and we are such different riders, and we both like different kinds of horses that suit our riding.

She explained even thought she always says how much she loves owning a stable there is also flaws because having your own business at home can feel like you never leave work, and can be stressful at times. Some people that also board their horses their can be very picky at times and are very demanding which leads to conflict in the barn. Hilary also said the only hard thing about having a horse stable is that she always must be at home to make sure none of the horse get hurt and to make sure they all have food. She also must feed supplements to certain horses and bring certain horses into their stalls at night, this can become very hard for her social life, family life and for her 2-year-old daughter that is very busy, and loves to help her with the horses but it can be dangerous with certain horses which is a worry for Hillary. But me being a boarder at her stable there is usually very little conflict and is a great area to be around.

Hillary has been coaching me for many years and has seen me switch horses and start as a beginner rider to intermediate, I feel if I didn’t have these clinics and have extra time in the saddle I wouldn’t be the rider I am today. Another great thing Hilary does at her stables is organize riding camps for people to be able to ride for a few days and spend lots of time around horses. She also has different clinics at the barn for anyone so they can come and get health information about their horses

Hillary has made a great environment at her stable to be around, I have been boarding they’re for a year now and enjoy it every time I go. At Winterfell stables it feels more like family then anything and all the riders help each other out and help us become better rider. I wouldn’t change stables for anything.

Weekly Blog Posts

Show Dog

My favorite article that I have read was Show Dog because, it kept me interested while reading it. Something that caught my attention was in the first paragraph it didn’t sound like the author was talking about a dog so it made you want to keep reading to find out if it was actually about a show dog, the author said in the fist paragraph “If I were a bitch, I’d be in love with Biff Truesdale. Biff is perfect. He’s friendly good-looking, rich, famous, and in excellent physical condition. He almost never drools. He’s not afraid of commitment. He wants children — actually, he already has children and wants a lot more. He works hard and is a consummate professional, but he also knows how to have fun.” (Orlean, Febuary 20 & 27 1995)

This passage is successful because it is so vivid it produces a feeling as if you are there and you can imagine it in your head. Since the passage is so vivid you can imagine the story in your head while reading it, which makes reading a long article more interesting. This also captured my interest because I also have a boxer, which interested me to read more about it.

In conclusion I think that the starting paragraph is the most important paragraph so therefore it should be the most interesting, and also in this paragraph it flows nice and is very specific on what points will be covered in the other paragraphs below. So reading this blog has helped me to know how to catch a readers attention.

Shitty First Drafts

“Is writing a first draft more about the product or the process”, in my opinion I believe that the first draft is more about the process then the product. When writing your first draft there is many steps, first you have to get all your ideas in order and start to think about your opening sentence, and how you are going to catch your followers attention. I think the first sentence is the most important because if your blog starts off boring your bloggers are not going to want to keep reading. Another important part of a first draft is the corrections of run on sentences and punctuation, which will take many drafts to make sure everything is flowing. Research is another big part of a blog because you want to ensure the information you are sharing to your bloggers is correct and not false information. Also if you don’t pay attention to the process then you will not come up with a good product.

When you finally think that your first process of your first draft is finished, you just have to think, that there is always many more drafts you will have to do before the final product will be finished. Blogging is a piece of art and a expression of yourself in my opinion, and by blogging you learn many new things, not by your blogs but by others too. Next time you read a blog remember all the work, thoughts and time the author of the blog put into it.

One Additional Sample of My Writing

 Media Case Study Proposal

Character Introduction

I have chosen to do my media case study on Meredith Grey from the TV serious Greys Anatomy. The setting of the TV serious takes place in a hospital called Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. In the hospital Meredith has her own little society, her and the other head surgeons are very close and don’t talk much unless they need something from the interns. The TV serious started in 2015 and has came out with there new serious season 12 in 2016. Meredith is age 45, she has a very different personality she is kind but stern, she has gone through lots in her life so she has many different personality’s in different circumstances. She is Chief of General Surgery at the hospital and is a very talented doctor. I have chosen to analyze Meredith Grey because she has gone through so much in her life and it interest me on how she can still be such a great doctor.

Development Stage

Meredith Grey as a child experience a traumatic experience when she caught her mother trying to kill herself with a kitchen knife, as Meredith went into the kitchen her mother was about to bleed to death, she called for an ambulance. This traumatic experience as a child would have had a impact on Meredith’s development socially. Meredith as an adolescence had many more responsibility’s then other adolescence, her mother a full time surgeon and her father an alcoholic, this took a tole on Meredith’s development she became a young adult much quicker. As a young adult Meredith was an intern at Seattle Grace hospital, she became quite know as well because the hospital she is at is where her mother worked. When someone is meeting this challenge they would be very overwhelmed, the person might not know what to do right away or some other people may not know how to react to the challenge.

Biopsychosocial Details

Some biological factors Meredith has faced in her career being a surgeon is being attacked by a patient she was treating; the patient was unconscious because he had a seizure, Meredith was turned around grabbing tools, when the patient woke up he did not know what was happening and became very aggressive and attacked Meredith, the outcomes after the attack was dislocation of the left elbow, left knee swelling, fractures of the left rib, neck bruises, swelling, and a collapsed lung. Once they stabilized her and she came to, she still couldn’t hear. This affected her also psychological because she was afraid to go back into the office where the patient attacked her. During her time spent in the hospital there were some impacts socially, she was very moody and aggravated when people came to visit as well.

Assessment

I believe that Meredith is falling behind in her current developmental challenge due to all the tragedies in her life, she has had to over come biological factors, psychological factors and social factors. Even though she has had many tragedies this has also helped her become a better person and very understanding.

  1. Hi Maddie, it must have been harder for you to write your thoughts out, huh! But look at what you have done so far: you have completed not only one but 3 big pieces of writing. Way to go!
I like your ideas that you get to hand in more than 1 draft, have peer evaluation and materials in class. Maybe these can be put into 3 separate paragraphs:
    Paragraph 1: writing multiple drafts
    Paragraph 2: Peer evaluation
    Paragraph 3: materials in class

There are some typos too: though -> throughout; of though -> have thought; pore -> poor; then -> than; fist -> first (shitty draft)

Overall your first draft is really good as you have reflected on your learning during this course, which is the main purpose of the assignment.

    Good luck Maddie ^^

    Paris.

  2. I like it because I can see that it is the writer’s real feeling. There are some spelling mistakes need to correct, such as “more then” in the second paragraph. In the last paragraph, “but know I have” should it be but now I have?
